Thoughts about Egypt

There is nothing new under the sun. The demands being made by the Egyptians made this scripture from Ezekiel stand out to me recently, “And thou, profane wicked prince of Israel, whose day is come, when iniquity shall have an end, Thus saith the Lord God; Remove the diadem, and take off the crown: this shall not be the same: exalt him that is low, and abase him that is high. I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him.” (Ezek. 21:25-27)

Zedekiah is the prince referred to and he was wicked and his time was coming to an end. The corruption, selfishness and dishonesty, the evils or sins of Egypt’s leaders are coming to an end.

Our God is all good and we see this goodness in the human experience to some degree. That ever present goodness always destroys evil, not people, but the evil being expressed by people. Man is redeemed.

We can pray for and support this current overturning in our world and see it in its right light. Mary Baker Eddy, an amazing religious leader and thinker put it this way in her main work, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, “Marvels, calamities, and sin will much more abound as truth urges upon mortals its resisted claims; but the awful daring of sin destroys sin, and foreshadows the triumph of truth. God will overturn, until ‘He come whose right it is.’ Longevity is increasing and the power of sin diminishing, for the world feels the alterative effect of truth through every pore.” (SH 223:28)

We can see the events in Egypt as the “alterative effect of truth,” and the “power of sin diminishing.” Good is the power, always, and good only must reign.

We can be aware of God’s presence there and everywhere, destroying whatever is not good in human character, in the human scene. God’s very presence destroys any evil, because there is no evil in God.  It’s like the light destroying the darkness. The light knows nothing about the darkness, but simply eliminates it by its very presence.

We can pray to know that God is on the scene and guiding the events — the thoughts and actions of His people. We do not have to stand by and wonder or wait to see what happens, or be afraid. We each can be supporting prayerfully this overturning. We can pray to know that each one is responsive to God, that God is working His purpose out, as the Bible says, “The Lord of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders. This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth: and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations. For the Lord of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?”  (Isa. 14:24-27)

God is loving his people, including the president and his associates, and is present with them and they hear and respond to this divine Love, this ever-present, all powerful force for good.
